Prior to my natural hair days, I loved highlighting my strands with hints of golds and browns, which surely did not change once I embarked on my natural hair journey.
I’d say that I’ve highlighted my hair about once a year since 2015 with bleach and over time, it did affect my curl pattern.
This year, with the desire of refreshing my highlights, I did some extensive research on what was available out there in terms of products as using bleach was a NO-GO.
I’d always heard of a semi-permanent color but did not realize that it would fade the more I washed my hair per the Sally’s Beauty Rep.
I went back to the drawing board and came across Clairol Professional Textures and Tones, designed for women of color.
I think I watched about 15+ videos on YouTube before deciding that this was the RIGHT product to proceed with.
What I noticed in all of these videos is that the product did not affect the curl pattern.
In addition, this product did not contain any ammonia or that strong bleach smell.
Plus, it came with simple instructions making it easy to use in the comfort of your home though I still went to my hair stylist to get my color done since I wanted to a combination of different shades.
As you can see in the video above, I bought four different colors: Flaming Desire, Honey Blonde, Light Golden Brown and Blazing Burgundy.
So let’s take a look at what my hair looked like before.

Before
In my Hair Goals ’18 post, I did share how badly I wanted to fix my shape and being able to wear my hair out versus in a High Puff majority of the time.
So, in addition to my color, I got a major cut and I love it!

After
My hair is sort of in a tapered look now, looks even/uniform and we got rid of quite a bit of the damaged bleached parts.
We used all the color except for the Light Golden Brown.

Day 1
I have to say, Day 1 was very scary: New Cut + New Color and 3 of them AT THAT!
But I kept remembering what Ms. Rhona (my hairstylist) told me: initially your color will look super bright and light but the more you wash, it’ll settled and not be as bright as it seems.
That was very relieving because I’m super conscious about not looking too wild LOL!
I think my issue was with the Blazing Burgundy. The parts of my hair that were already highlighted in light brown turned out Rose Gold-ish when the Burgundy hit.
Make sense?

Day 5
Sure enough, the color did tone down as time went on and I was even more excited!

Week 2
I can attest to the fact that this product did not affect my curl pattern AT ALL.
My Twistout looks better than EVER especially with the cut and I love seeing the various brown and red hues all over my crown.
Where To Buy: I purchased my Clairol Professional products at CVS Pharmacy but it is also available at Walmart and Target, at an even lower price.
